Should Council renew its Dry Zones and expand their boundaries?
The City of Holdfast Bay currently has three Dry Zones, located at Glenelg, Brighton and Seacliff. The purpose of the Dry Zones is to keep popular public spaces safe for everyone by prohibiting alcohol consumption within these designated areas.
The Dry Zones are operated in conjunction with the Office of the Liquor and Gambling Commissioner and the licence for the Dry Zones is about to expire on 8 December 2011.
In order to continue the Dry Zones, Council needs to:
- Apply for an extension for the Dry Zones from the Office of the Liquor and Gambling Commissioner for their continuation; and
- Explore the possibility of expanding the Dry Zone areas.
We would like to hear your views on this matter. Do you believe the Dry Zones are working, and if so, what’s making them effective? If they’re not working, how could we make them more effective, or what other solution would you suggest?
